Live Chat Project

Lomax School

Miss Heather Dean’s fifth grade class at the Lomax Elementary Magnet School in Tampa, Florida tried “chatting” occasionally with students at ABC Divine Foundation School. The uncertain electrical grid, reception and bandwidth problems in Uganda made this a most complicated endeavor, requiring much patience and perseverance from both schools.  Some day we might be able to continue with ideas such as this, as the experience was very beneficial for the American students as well as the Ugandan ones.

Here are students, with their teacher in a hotel near the school, experiencing for the first time, the web camera connection with their friends in the U.S.A.

Some of the topics that were discussed are:

  • What determines the color of a person’s skin, lips and eyes?
  • Are there tribes in the United States?
  • How do you know when your birthday is? (the Ugandan orphans asked)
  • How do you make your hair straight like that?
  • Do you have much homework?
